Book Review: Asthma, Allergies, Children: a parent"s guide

This is a great time to have access to this parent’s guide for asthma and allergies. Spring and fall seem to be the most difficult time for children who have allergies. Here is my review of the book and as a nurse I have to tell you this is a great resource.

3RD Avenue Books

I found this book to be easy to read for parents and caregivers. While the book is not intended to take the place of the advice of your physician, I think it is one of the best resources I have read that reinforces the advice from your physician. The information is concrete, easy to understand in terms that are clear, and it is broken down into easily digested chapters.

The book outlines the mechanism of allergy attacks, the relationship between allergies and asthma, and specific ideas to take control of your child’s allergies and asthma. The chapters outline very carefully what each allergic reaction looks and feels like to your child. A parent or caregiver will learn to recognize breathing problems, skin problems, and how to prevent some of the more severe reactions on a daily basis.

The authors are physicians with years of experience and their clinical expertise is evident in how they reach out to the reader with facts. The approach they take is a whole family approach offering solid advice and solutions. It includes stories and examples that parents will relate to and language they will understand.

This book should be in the home of every parent who has a child with allergies or asthma. An excellent resource I am confident to recommend.
